My name is Karen, and I have always had a natural curiosity about how and why people choose the careers and jobs they do.

Based on the above interest, I completed a Master’s Degree in Research Psychology. The theme of the thesis was Career Maturity in first year students and that set me on my path.

During a lengthy career in Human Resources, I gained insight into a multitude of careers and career types, and what is required (interpersonally, psychologically and skills-wise) for these roles and jobs. I also have insight in how to conduct yourself in an interview and generally present yourself to prospective employers.

In my dealings with career counselling clients, I came to understand many base their career choices and studies on ill-related factors, e.g. academic scores only or due to family pressure or a lack of understanding of what that career/job entails. The more information one has about yourself, your career prospects, and its sustainability, the higher the chance of success.

It is not only Learners and Students who make use of this service. I have consulted with clients who are close to the end of their “employed” careers but still needs fulfillment of having something meaningful to do, even if that looks different to the initial part of their work life. People also change over the span of a career and develop interests and skills that could steer them in a different direction.

This service is aimed at facilitating a process where the client gains self-insight. This is done by completing a couple of relatively inexpensive but valid psychometric assessments, an in-depth analysis thereof, and presenting that to the client and whomever they choose to invite to the meeting. In a feedback session of between 60 and 90 minutes (via Zoom), the psychometric report is discussed but most importantly, the recommendations made from the profile, with the client’s input, reservations, or agreements.

For clients at any point in their career and in any type of role, who have been fortunate enough to be invited to an interview but need some coaching on how to conduct and prepare themselves, I can assist with that too.
